Case Study: Turning Crisis Into Opportunity

ree

Background: A Pharmacy on the Brink

A respected, dual location pharmacy owner in South Florida faced existential threats common to many independents:

  • Reimbursement rates below cost

  • Soaring DIR fees

  • Declining script volume

  • Staff demoralized and considering layoffs

As the owner shared with me:

“I was about to close my doors—now we’re poised for our best year yet.”

The Challenge

The pharmacy was stuck in defense mode:

  • DIR fees eroded margins year after year

  • No clear strategy to drive new scripts

  • Existing patient data was an untapped resource

  • Owner needed a path forward

My Approach

We launched a data-driven engagement:

  1. Deep Dive Analysis: Mined the pharmacy’s own dispensing and clinical records for hidden opportunities.

  2. Med Sync Identification: Flagged hundreds of patients with fragmented refill schedules ideal for synchronization.

  3. Revenue Mapping: Modeled potential impact of Med Sync, targeted vaccine, and adherence programs.

  4. Hands-on Enablement: Provided step-by-step workflow changes, staff training, and all implementation tools—remotely, to protect anonymity.

The Solution: Med Sync Built from Their Own Data

  • Identified over 750 patients eligible for medication synchronization

  • Launched a Med Sync program with process automation, patient outreach, and calendarized fills

  • Included targeted script campaigns for vaccines and high-value clinical services

The Results (6 Months)

  • 15,000 new prescriptions dispensed

  • $340,000 in new annual operating margin added

  • No additional staff hires required

  • Strong morale boost—“from survival mode to thriving”

Owner’s Words

“Stan’s approach was a game changer. We always thought growth meant more marketing or tech spend. Instead, he helped us find gold in what we already had. The staff are motivated again and for the first time in years, we feel in control.” — Multi-Location Owner, South FL (anonymized for PBM protection)

Why We Don’t Name Names

Due to the current PBM and payer climate, our most successful pharmacy clients require confidentiality. Every story shared here is real—and every result is verifiable upon request.

The Bottom Line

Thousands of dollars in growth, profitability, and peace of mind are likely hidden in your pharmacy’s own data. If you’re ready to move from defense to offense, let’s find out what’s waiting in yours.
